Geek Breakfast Celebrates First Year with Food Drive

This month, Nashville Geek Breakfast celebrates its one year anniversary! In honor of our chowing down on all sorts of good food over the last year, Geek Breakfast founder and organizer Dave Delaney is asking that we contribute to a mini-food drive.

Second Harvest Middle Tennessee is in the middle of a mass food drive to get their recipients through December (and the rest of the year). They are seeking: peanut butter, canned tuna, canned chicken, canned soup or stew, canned vegetables, canned fruit, and macaroni & cheese.

Dave says, "I think it would be a nice gesture (and a timely one at that). I would sincerely appreciate it if you would consider bringing along a can(s) of any of the above on Thursday."

So bring your non-perishable food item(s) and join us this Thursday, December 18th, at Noshville in Midtown. We’ll be meeting from 7:30 - 8:30 am. Everyone is welcome to attend. RSVP on the Facebook event.

Be early to make sure you have a seat.

Don't forget Dave has also created a Nashville Geek Breakfast LinkedIn group if you'd like to badge your profile.

Nash Stache Bash Celebrates Successful Movember

To celebrate raising over $875 to fight prostate cancer, Team Nash Stache is throwing a party at The Big Bang tonight. The team, headed by Kieran Cloonan, raised the money by growing mustaches in Movember (the month formerly known as November) as part of the worldwide event.

Movember is operated by an Australian-based, nonprofit, charitable organization that creates awareness around men's health issues and raises funds for carefully selected beneficiary partners in each country, with a focus on prostate cancer. Movember's beneficiary partner in the United States is the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer.

As team captain, Kieran recruited eleven brave Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to grow mustaches and/or solicit donations. Team members have posted photos of their mustache-growing progress on their Movember blog pages. According to Kieran, the party tonight is an opportunity to "celebrate the end of Movember, have some drinks, take lots of pictures, and hand out a few prizes."

The party is open to everyone, especially those who have donated to the cause (and it's not too late: donations are being accepted through Dec. 9).

RSVP via the Facebook event and join us tonight from 5:30 pm until whenever at The Big Bang on Broadway.

Firefly Logic Sponsors the Geek Social

Local software development firm Firefly Logic is proud to sponsor the Geek Social, a monthly, no-agenda meeting of the minds of local talent—a chance to hang out with the other geeks in the community and see what's going on.
We love to talk shop over good food and drink. We also think that getting the most talented professionals in middle Tennessee together in one spot for an hour or two once a month could help some interesting ideas get a chance to be born.
The next Geek Social will be 6:00-8:00 pm this Thursday, December 4, in the VIP room at Sam's Place Sports Bar & Grill in Hillsboro Village.

The Geek Social is open to geeks of all types; you don’t have to be a software geek, just a geek in your industry (you know who you are). We have project management geeks, graphic designer geeks, and even a film production geek. No RSVP is required, so just show up!
